Preview Performance

July 10th, 2008 at 03:10 pm

I guess blogging will be at a minimum this summer - we are busy doing summer things, and if Daisy is not occupied she is reading over my shoulder!

A friend of Daisy's is in a local production of a musical. The friend's mom gave me ticket information. I quickly went from "great" to "hyperventilating". The tickets were $32 for adults, $12 for kids. Fortunately for us, the same mom passed along information about a "preview performance". She said it was like a final dress rehearsal. There was a cost - $10 per ticket. Whew!

I had not heard of a "preview performance" before, and in the future I may look into it more for things like this. We went to the performance last night. It was excellent! Well worth the $10 ticket price.

We were out late and Daisy didn't make it to bed until after 11. She's sleeping in and can't read over my shoulder while I write this entry.

How's the budget going? Are you and your husband still working together as one?

Hey Merch - just responded to your last comments on my last entry a month ago! Teamwork, unfortunately, is not a natural part of our relationship, and unless I am consciously encouraging it, it doesn't seem to happen - DH generally will not initiate it. I haven't been pushing it, and so it hasn't been happening. Blogging seems to help keep me focused in that direction. . . really must keep after the blogging. Smile And keeping Daisy occupied so she can't read over my shoulder.

Yep keep the focus. And remember every action you take moves you closer or further away from your goals.

Blogging does keep me focused, even if no one read the rantings of a mad man.

Can I ask what is the everything else catagory? It seems after your expenses, that you have little left over. I ask because, my expenses leave me with little or nothing left until the next payday and usually I'm freaking out for 2 weeks straight.

saj - The "everything else" category includes gifts, household expenses (scotch tape, kleenex, that sort of thing), clothing and other random small things that come up. It does not include mortgage, car repair, monthly bills or medical expenses. I just put up a page about our "Two Checkbook" system so you can read more there. But we do have a small amount of savings, a mutual fund and a 401K. If things got really desperate we have some resources.

saj - Just had a quick look at your blog. I can see why you'd be freaking out. My sidebar doesn't tell the whole story - we have no debt except mortgage and enough savings to feel like we'd have a safety net if needed. We have been overspending in that one account for a long time but we've also had savings to cover it so while it's a bad habit it hasn't pushed us to the financial edge.

Can I encourage you not to freak out? There are people here in this group of bloggers who have done some amazing things financially when the situation was difficult. They are very inspirational.
