Another Step

May 9th, 2008 at 01:17 pm

I've been entertaining my mother, as well as hosting a family event last weekend - kind of puts a crimp in my blogging. Mom will head home tomorrow and I'll get back at it.

But, while I have a couple of spare minutes, I'm suprised to report the following:

My DH asked to set up some time this weekend during which we could talk about how we did in April. He also volunteered some information regarding expenditures in June.

I'm still in such a state of surprise over this turn of events that I haven't figured out what to think about it.

I wanted to share something with you first before I respond. On April 14th (your first blog), you wrote:

“But what if you are married to someone who doesn't share your financial aspirations? Or someone who pays lip-service to mutual goals but is unwilling to make sacrifices to achieve those goals? What if you are married to someone whose financial strategies cause you a great deal of discomfort? And is unwilling to work out a compromise with you? That is the unfortunate position in which I now find myself.”

I just want to put this out there because it is important to see where you were and where you are now. In one of my comments, I spoke about how I saw that you were turning the corner. I hope you can see this and in your latest post, I feel your hope. Probably something missing for a while.

The budgeting is not just about money. It really is communicating in an honest way and coming together as a team. It is OUR income and OUR expenses and OUR financial goals.

So what do you do know? Continue to work on the budget. Since he is bringing up expenses for June, you might want to take out May’s budget and talk about where you (plural) can cut some expenses to save for the June expenses.

You’re on the right track, keep at it. And just approach everything form a team perspective. Every decision you make is a step towards your goal or away.

Hurray! Of course act very matter of fact when talking to DH, do not appear too excited! I agree with Merch!

Merch - Thanks for your continued/continual optimism. I really appreciate it!

Homebody - LOL! I didn't turn carwheels when we talked, or say "It's about time." Both were tempting propositions, although I think it would kill me to do a carwheel at this point in my life!
